The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has approved the appointment of Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani as the new Chief Imam Fulani of the Ilorin Emirate.

The appointment, announced on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Emir’s Personal Assistant, Dr. Abdulraheem Muritala, followed what was described as a rigorous selection process involving several respected Islamic scholars who vied for the highly revered religious position.

Sheikh Dasuki, 42, emerged successful and now assumes a key spiritual leadership role within the emirate’s Muslim community.

The newly appointed Chief Imam Fulani comes from a distinguished family of Islamic scholars.

He is the grandson of the eighth Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, and son of the tenth Chief Imam, Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka.

Before his elevation, Sheikh Dasuki founded and managed Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies in Airport, Egbejila, Ilorin.

He also served as Imam of Afsat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko Olowo, where he led daily prayers and weekly Jumu’ah services.

A respected Islamic scholar and broadcaster, Sheikh Dasuki is known for presenting the Al-Bisharah Islamic Foundation Ramadan programme on Radio Kwara.

He also teaches at Darul Kitab College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin.

Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Islamic Shari’ah from Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, obtained in 2014.

He also earned a Diploma in Arabic Islamic Education from the Institute of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies at Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

The Emir expressed confidence in Sheikh Dasuki’s ability to provide sound spiritual leadership and prayed for divine guidance throughout his tenure.

“Amin. Long live the Ilorin Emirate.

Shehu, Shehu, Shehu, wallahu yazimuka mina nas, amin,” the monarch said.

The Emir also prayed that Allah grants the new Chief Imam long life, sound health and wisdom to effectively lead the Muslim Ummah within and beyond the Ilorin Emirate.

Meanwhile, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has congratulated Sheikh Dasuki on his appointment, describing him as a suitable choice for the important religious office.

In a statement issued by his Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood Abdulrafiu Agboola, the governor commended the Emir of Ilorin for selecting the young Islamic scholar to occupy the position.

“The choice of a young and vibrant Azhari scholar as the new Chief Imam Fulani reflects the commitment of our community, which His Royal Highness symbolises, to continue to mobilise different demographics of the Muslim ummah for greater good and development,” AbdulRazaq said.

The governor prayed for Allah’s guidance, protection and blessings upon the new Chief Imam and urged members of the Muslim community to support him in the discharge of his responsibilities.

“I ask Allah to guide and protect the new Chief Imam, perfect His blessings upon him, and give him long life and good health in the service of the ummah.

“I also urge everyone to rally round the new Chief Imam in the overall interest of our community,” he added.

The appointment is expected to strengthen religious leadership and further promote Islamic activities across the Ilorin Emirate.
