Dangote Cement Transport Obajana Upscales Community Engagement In Sustainability Drive

The 2025 Sustainability Week celebration at Dangote Cement Transport, Obajana, Kogi State, (DCT) continued in grand style with a lecture and an award presentation ceremony.

The event reinforced the organization’s commitment to sustainability, education, and community development.

In his opening remarks, the Divisional Director of Transport, Obajana, retired Col. Hemant Rana, represented by Mr. Charles Theophilus, Head, PTI, commended the organizers and participants for their dedication to promoting sustainability through inclusive community engagement.

He emphasized that sustainable growth is not just a corporate responsibility but a shared vision between Dangote Cement and its host communities.

The sustainability week featured distinguished guest speakers from the Kogi State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, who enlightened participants on how sustainable business practices can drive long-term profitability, resilience, and positive community impact.

A major highlight of the day was the presentation of trophies and prizes to winners of the Inter-Schools Spelling Bee and Quiz Competition.

The competitions featured four public and six private secondary schools drawn from the four host communities.

Excellent Future Leaders International School emerged overall winner of the Quiz Competition, while Golden Vessels Academy, Obajana, clinched the top spot in the Spelling Bee Contest.

The trophies were presented by the Divisional Director of Transport (DDT), represented by Head of Operations, Mr. Abdullahi Aliyu, in recognition of the students’ brilliance, discipline, and team spirit.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Peter Agba, Head of Human Asset Management (HAM-Admin/HR), appreciated both private and public schools for turning out in large numbers to participate in the competitions.

He reaffirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to community engagement, stating that “at Dangote Cement Transport, we are committed to bringing smiling faces to our host communities in diverse ways.”

The celebration also featured special recognition awards for outstanding service and volunteerism within the Dangote Transport Division.

Mr. Emmanuel Yashim was honored as Outstanding Male Volunteer of the Year (2024–2025),

Mrs. Oluwasola John received the Outstanding Female Volunteer of the Year (2024–2025) award, and Mr. Charles Theophilus was presented with a Meritorious Service Award Plaque for his exemplary leadership as Chairman of the Planning Committee.

In his closing remark, Mr. Eseyin Temitope James, Acting Sustainability Lead, expressed profound appreciation to the Dangote Group management for its forward-thinking sustainability initiatives and continuous support for community development.

He reiterated that the Sustainability Week stands as a reflection of Dangote Cement’s broader mission to build prosperity through responsible practices that empower people, protect the environment, and promote lasting partnerships.

The event concluded with renewed enthusiasm among staff, students, and community representatives, as Dangote Cement Transport, Obajana continues to lead by example in championing sustainability and growth across its operations and host communities.
