Gunmen on Sunday attacked two different communities in Kogi State, killed three persons and abducted unspecified number of people, including church worshippers.
The two communities that came under attack are located in Mopa/Muro Local Government and Kabba/Bunu Local Government, all in Kogi West Senatorial District.
In Ilai and Oke-Ago communities in Mopamuro local government, gunmen killed three persons and also abducted three residents.
Sources said the gunmen invaded the communities at about 4am and attacked two locations simultaneously.
One of the communities,
Jamroro settlement, located between Oke-agi and Takete Isao and largely inhabited by Tiv people, came under attack for more than one hour.
Two persons were confirmed killed, while three others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The second attack occurred in a Bassa community near Ilai Grammar School, less than one kilometre from Ilai town.
One person was reportedly killed during the raid, while three others were kidnapped by the attackers.
In Kiri community, Kabba/Bunu Local Government, the rampaging bandits kidnapped unspecified number of worshippers from ECWA Church in the town.
The church was said to be holding its regular Sunday service when the gunmen came.
The Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Local Government, Hon. Zacheaus Dare Michael confirmed the attack.
He, however, explained that the number of church members abducted is uncertain yet.
The Chairman blamed the attack on the leadership of the church.
“The Church violated our security guidelines and directives by doing church activities in a highly volatile zone.
“The pastor led his congregational members into serious suffering,” the Chairman said.
