Bago Declares State Of Emergency On Thuggery In Niger State

Governor Muhammed Bago has declared a state of emergency on thuggery in Niger State.

Bago also ordered the arrest of thugs and demolition of houses the miscreants are using as hideouts.

The governor directed security operatives to go after anyone caught with a weapon, disturbing the peace of residents, especially in the State Capital, Minna.

The declaration of state of emergency followed the resurgence of thuggery in Minna, which led to the killing of a member of a vigilante group, looting of shops and attacking law abiding citizens.

Bago spoke in Minna at an annual Durbar organised by a former Governor of the State, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu.

The Governor said the State has zero tolerance to rascality and thuggery and, as such, would not allow anyone to create unnecessary panic among residents.

He appreciated the former Governor for putting the annual Durbar in place and promised to support the initiative to promote culture.

The former Governor, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, said the event was part of his contribution to preserving culture.

He stressed that with the necessary support, it would boost the tourism potentials of the State.
