AMURIC Issued Statement With Fulani Group, Not MURIC – Agunbiade
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) says it has not issue statement with any Fulani group.

MURIC made the clarification in a statement issued on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

The statement was signed by Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, Secretary,
Muslim Rights Concern
(MURIC), Oyo State Chapter.

“The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC)
wishes to inform the general public that there is another Islamic group which bears a name very similar to that of MURIC.

“The group is called AMURIC (Amalgamated Muslim Rights Concern).

“We wish to explain further that it was AMURIC that issued a statement in conjunction with a Fulani group yesterday, not MURIC.

“We affirm that like every other ethnic group in Nigeria, the Yoruba people have the inalienable right to defend themselves against bandits and terrorists.

“Arising from this contention, therefore, Yoruba leaders of all persuasions have the right to mobilise the youth towards achieving this objective.

“While we admit that AMURIC is a sister Islamic organization made up of respected Muslim brothers and sisters, we advise the leadership of the group to make such changes in its name as to easily differentiate between it and MURIC.

“We therefore call on those behind AMURIC to adopt a distinctly different name that will not create confusion with MURIC or mislead the public regarding the source of statements issued by either organization.

“It will be difficult for MURIC to change its own name because it has been using the same name since its formation in 1994.

“It was this same name that was registered by the Nigerian registration authority (CAC).

“Unless a miracle occurs, it may be difficult for the authorities to register AMURIC.

“This clarification became necessary because we have a difference of opinion from the position taken by AMURIC in its press statement of yesterday, Friday, 5th June, 2026.

“In particular, we do not see the need for bringing the names of respected Yoruba leaders like Chief Sunday Igboho, Chief Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti State Governor
and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State into the narrative.

“Although we are a national organisation, MURIC believes that bandits who make inroads into Yorubaland should be severely dealt with by both the security agencies and the civilians themselves under the auspices of vigilante groups like Amotekun, Oduduwa People’s Congress (OPC), Iru Ekun, etc.

“In conclusion, it was AMURIC that issued yesterday’s statement in connivance with a Fulani group, not MURIC and we knew nothing about it,” MURIC explained
