Both the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL) and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State (AAUA) have announced today, October 17 as resumption date for their students.

This followed recent suspension of the eight-month strike embarked by university lecturers nationwide.

Rising from an Emergency Meeting on Monday in Lokoja, the Vice-Chancellor of FUL, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, announced that the Senate of the university has approved October 17 as resumption date while academic activities will commence on October 24.

In his address tagged “NOW THAT WE ARE BACK TO OUR BEATS,” the Vice-Chancellor used the occasion to make passionate appeal to the academic staff to put in extra efforts to their schedules to make for the time lost so that students would not suffer unduly for the strike.

“I know, as a matter of fact that this is a daunting sacrifice that I request of you but we will need to bend-over backwards for the sake of our students,” Akinwumi appealed.

The meeting also considered the revised Academic Calendar which has been adopted with few adjustments to be made.

In a related development, the VC briefed distinguished members of the Senate of some major policy decisions taken by the Principal Officers Committee (POC) in their weekly meetings all through the period of the strike.

This included the relocation of the Faculty of Science from the College of Health Sciences, Adankolo Campus to the University Permanent Site which commenced on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

Also, the management of the AAUA in a circular released on Monday in Akungba Akoko directed all students to resume immediately Monday for second semester examination.

The circular with reference number AD/REG/CIR/58/VOL.VI/473 and signed by
Olugbenga ARAJULU,
Registrar of the university said academic activities start immediately.

“Following the suspension of industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the University Senate has directed that the University be reopened for academic activities on 17 October, 2022.

“All students are, therefore, expected to resume for the Second semester 2020/2021 academic session on 17 October, 2022.

“Upon resumption, students who are yet to pay their school fees or had made part-payment are required to pay up their outstanding school fees and complete registration of courses for the Second semester 2020/2021 academic session instantly.

“Students who had paid fully should also register for their courses as lectures will commence immediately, and registration for courses will close by midnight Saturday, 19 November, 2022.

“For further enquires on their course registration, students should contact their respective Heads of Department or Level Advisers.

“On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga E. Ige, I welcome back all students to the Campus and wish them success in their studies. All students are requested to take note of this circular and ensure compliance, please.

Please find attached, the reviewed academic calendar for the 2 Semester 2020/2021 academic session.

By copies of this circular, Deans, Heads of Department and members of staff are requested to adhere strictly to the calendar as the University reopens for academic activities.

Thank you.
