Lagos – The finals of Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championships will begin in Lagos on June 26.
Managing Director of Nestle PLC, Ian Nelson said at a news conference on Monday in Lagos that the event, which is the 22nd edition of the championship, would run till June 30 at the Indoor Sports Hall, National Stadium, Lagos.
According to him, no fewer than 10,000 schools across the country participated in the preliminaries, out of which 12 schools, six each for boys and girls, qualified for the finals.
Nelson said the competition was to nurture and develop basketball talents at the grassroots.
“In the past three months, we have witnessed interesting basketball actions amongst our secondary schools across the 36 states and the FCT.
“This culminated into the conference finals playoffs which took place in four different centres,” he added.
He listed the boys team to include Dutse Model International Secondary School, Jigawa from the Savannah Conference and Government Secondary School Karu, Abuja, Central conference.
Others are; King Amachree Academy, Port Harcourt and Bishop Dimieari Grammar School, Ovom, Bayelsa, from the Equatorial Conference.
The rest include Topfield College, Ajegunle in Lagos State and Victorroti Private Secondary School, Abeokuta in Ogun, from the Western Conference.
In the girls category, Government Secondary School, Numan in Adamawa and Government Girls Secondary School Shekara, Kano, qualified from the Savannah Conference.
Akpor College Gboko in Benue and Queen Amina College Kaduna qualified from the Central Conference while St. Jude Girls Secondary School, Amarita qualified for the finals from the Equatorial Conference.(NAN/vitalnewsngr.com)
