Former Nigeria’s Minister of Planing and Finance and Sardauna Of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji is dead.
Alhaji, also known as “Triple A,” died in Abuja on Thursday at the age of 88 years.
He was born on November 22, 1938 in Sokoto and was a member of the Sokoto Royal caliphate.
He joined the Nigerian civil service in 1964 and rose to become a powerful Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance by 1979.
He served as Minister of State for Budget and Planning before taking over as the federal Minister of Finance between 1990 and 1991 under the military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.
Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji was also at a time Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom in the mid-1990s.
He was turbaned as the Sardauna of Sokoto in 1990, inheriting the revered traditional title previously held by Sir Ahmadu Bello.
The late Minister will be buried later today in Sokoto.
