The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified a frontline governorship aspirant, Chief Adebayo Adelabu from the party’s gubernatorial governorship primary.
Adelabu had last month resigned as Minister of Power to contest the APC governorship primary in Oyo State.
This development was confirmed in Ibadan on Wednesday by sources within the party.
This disqualification of Adelabu, who was also a former Deputy Governor Operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria is likely to trigger strong reactions from his supporters and deepen divisions among party stakeholders.
Although, the party leadership has yet to officially state the grounds for the decision, sources within the Oyo State chapter of the APC disclosed that the action followed issues arising from the screening and eligibility process for aspirants.
Observers say Adelabu’s exclusion could alter the political equation within the party and reshape the APC’s strategy in what is expected to be a fiercely contested election in the state.
