The FCT Police Command has deployed 4,200 of its personnel to strategic areas of the territory to curb any form of violence that may arise during the planned August 1 protest.
A statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer in FCT, SP Josephine Adeh in Abuja on Friday confirmed this.
Adeh said the personnel were deployed to resist any form of violence during the planned nationwide protests.
The command said it had has proactively deployed material and human resources at its disposal across the nooks and crannies of the nation’s capital.
According to the statement, deployment of explosive ordinance devices (EOD) experts, and personnel at various strategic locations, raids on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings/shanties, stop and search, vehicular and foot patrol, and synergy with sister security agencies, is aimed at ensuring public safety, protecting protesters, and preventing protests from being hijacked by non-state actors
The Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth Igweh while acknowledging the right of residents to protest has also advised that such exercise of rights must be peaceful.
“The CP vows to resist all forms of violent protest and lawlessness, as the police will not be stampeded into allowing the destruction of public and private properties or loss of lives”, the Commissioner of Police said. (vitalnewsngr.com)
