The Nigerian Army has commenced a manhunt for a soldier accused of illegally supplying military uniforms and other controlled items to terrorists and criminal elements.
The Headquarters Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps (NAOC) on Thursday declared Private Mohammed Yusuf Amutu wanted over the alleged offence, saying preliminary investigations linked him to the unauthorised sale and distribution of military kits.
According to the Corps, Amutu, who was serving at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory, allegedly absconded from his unit on June 3, 2026, prompting military authorities to declare him wanted.
The Army said efforts were ongoing to locate and arrest the soldier, after which he would be subjected to a full investigation and appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with military laws.
The development comes as the military intensifies measures to prevent the diversion of uniforms, accoutrements and other operational materials into the hands of terrorists, bandits and other criminal networks.
The Ordnance Corps warned that any personnel found involved in compromising national security through the illegal supply of military assets would face severe sanctions under both military and civil laws.
It appealed to members of the public with credible information on Amutu’s whereabouts to assist security agencies in securing his arrest.
The Corps reiterated its commitment to accountability, professionalism and the protection of Nigeria’s military resources, assuring that all allegations of misconduct would be thoroughly investigated and those found culpable brought to justice.
