Ilorin – Twelve people on Saturday lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on Ilorin- /Ogbomoso road in Kwara State.
The accident happened at about 7 am when an 18-seater white colour Toyota Hiace passenger bus in which they were travelling collided with a DAF truck.
The bus which was heading to Lagos immediately went up in flames as a result of the impact and with the passengers trapped in it, an eyewitness told newsmen.
However, six of the 18 passengers were lucky, as they were able to escape with varying degree of injuries.
The Kwara State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Jonathan Owoade, confirmed the accident.
“Twelve of the passengers were burnt beyond recognition.
“We are still at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) trying to sort out the process of depositing them at the morgue.
“But those injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” he said.
Owoade said investigation into the accident has started but said speed limit and route violations were being suspected to be the immediate cause.
