Security agents in Kogi State have intercepted 53 electrical transformers meant for electrification projects in different parts of the state while being carted away in a truck.
The truck carrying the transformers was intercepted at Obajana while on its way to Lagos State
The electrical transformers were stolen from the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) facility in the state by a gang of criminals who were also arrested with the truck at Obajana.
The 53 electrical transformers which have now been recovered and kept at an Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) facility in the state may have stalled the installation of the transformers in different communities in the state earlier in the year.
Reacting, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo lauded security agents for their vigilance and commitment to duty.
He said the recovery of the stolen 53 electrical transformers and the subsequent arrest of a gang criminals responsible for the act is as an indication of improvement in the fight against crime in the state.
The governor who spoke through his Special Adviser on media and publicity, Ismaila Isah expressed delight that renewed efforts by his administration to combat crime in the state is already yielding tremendous results.
Ododo, then commended security agencies operating in the state for being steadfast in the discharge of their responsibilities at all times.
According to Isah, suspects arrested in connection with the stolen 53 electrical transformers have volunteered useful information that led to the arrest of a fleeing member of the gang in Ilorin, Kwara State and the alleged receiver of the transformers in Lagos state respectively.
Governor Ododo restated his determination to stamp out crimes and criminality in the state, assuring security agencies of maximum support by the state government to ensure the security of lives and property in all parts of Kogi state. (vitalnewsngr.com)
