Ogun – The Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Ogun State, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, has declared that he is in the race to fight the incumbent Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun and not to continue agitation for the West Senatorial District to produce the next Governor.

Akinlade, who was addressing some individuals in his ancestral home of Ipokia, Yewa South Local Government on Sunday said the first of his agenda is to stop Governor Abiodun from returning for a second term.

He further said the other reason for joining the governorship race alongside the PDP’s flag bearer, Ladi Adebutu was to fight the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State for allegedly betraying his political godfather, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who is the immediate past Governor of the State.

Recall that Akinlade, together with some loyalists of Amosun defected to Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the build up to the 2019 Governorship Election in the State, after his failure to secure governorship ticket on the of APC.

He eventually contested for the Governorship seat with full support of the then Governor Ibikunle Amosun, and lost to the incumbent, Dapo Abiodun.

Akinlade, later returned to the APC after the election, only for him to recently announcing his new romance with the PDP.

Meanwhile, scores of Ogun electorate have berated Akinlade over his new confession, describing him as political toddler and a greenhorn.

A public commentator and political analyst in Abeokuta, Mr John Adeola, said politicians like Akinlade are mere jobbers, who have no idea of governance.

According to him, the latest revelation about his intent and vision in the 2023 governorship race confirmed what people have been saying about him as nothing but a puppet of the former Governor Amosun.

“This Akinlade is a kindergarten politician, he is far below average in critical reasoning and common sense, no wonder Amosun preferred him to be governor.

“How could a grown up man publicly declared that the major reason for joining a governorship race is to stop someone from getting second term and getting a pound of flesh of some people.

“This man is randomly clueless, he is not in anyway better than the person he is running with, may God never allow these dunces to rule Ogun State”, he said.

In the same vein, a lawyer, Mrs Kadijat Williams, have slammed Akinlade for what she called display of political immaturity.

Williams added that the Deputy Governorship candidate of PDP have been long suspected to be an ordinary tool in the hands of Amosun.

She opined that the latest move of Akinlade further confirmed the level of desperation by Amosun to rule Ogun State again by proxy.

“The recent outburst credited to Akinlade should be an eye opener for Ogun electorate, this man and his co-traveller in PDP have nothing to offer the State and the people.

“They are contesting to achieve parochial personal agenda, they must be ignored completely, ” She said.
