WHY PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU DESERVES A SECOND TERM

Nigeria is at a crossroads. The decisions we make in 2027 will determine whether the tough sacrifices of today become the foundation for prosperity tomorrow, or whether we abandon the job halfway.
That is why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves a second term.
Leadership is not measured by applause in year one.
It is measured by courage to take decisions others avoided for 20 years, and by the will to stay the course until those decisions bear fruit.
1. He took the hard decisions Nigeria kept postponing.
For decades, fuel subsidy and multiple exchange rates drained our treasury and enriched a few.
Previous governments knew it was unsustainable but lacked the political will to act.
President Tinubu removed the subsidy and unified the forex windows in his first months.
It was painful. Prices rose. But it was also honest.
For the first time, government revenue increased, states received more allocation, and money that used to disappear is now being channeled into infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Reforms like this do not deliver results in 24 months.
They deliver in 6 to 8 years. To stop now is to waste the sacrifice.
2. Infrastructure and economic foundation are being laid.
From the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, to the student loan scheme and CNG buses, this administration is thinking in decades, not election cycles.
We are also seeing renewed investor confidence.
Billions in pledges for energy, manufacturing, and tech have come in because investors want policy consistency.
A second term guarantees that consistency. Half-finished projects help no one.
3. Governance experience matters at this moment.
Nigeria needs a president who understands how government actually works.
As governor of Lagos, Tinubu grew IGR from peanuts to hundreds of billions, rebuilt infrastructure, and created a template many states copied.
At the federal level, he is applying that same template: expand revenue, block leakages, devolve power, and empower states and local governments.
That is how you build a federation that works.
4. Security and institutions need continuity.
No president can fix insecurity in one term.
But we have seen a rejig of the security architecture, better equipment for troops, and a renewed focus on intelligence. Institutional reforms in the judiciary, police, and civil service are also underway.
These are slow, unglamorous jobs.
But they are the jobs that determine whether Nigeria is safe and investable in 2030.
The case for continuity
“Renewed Hope” was never going to be a magic wand.
It was a contract: endure the reset now, harvest the results later.
To change drivers in the middle of a storm is to risk going off the road.
Nigeria has started painful but necessary surgery.
We need the same surgeon to see it through to recovery.
A second term for President Tinubu is not about personality.
It is about finishing what we started. It is about completing roads, stabilizing the naira, growing jobs, and securing the country.
The alternative is to start over, and Nigeria cannot afford another restart.
Let the good work continue.
