Troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force, North West Operation Fansan Yamma, have successfully dismantled terrorist hideouts in the Fakai area of Shinkafi Local Government Area (LGA) in Zamfara State.
The operation, which took place on January 10, 2025, is part of ongoing military efforts to combat banditry and restore peace to the region.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, confirmed the success of the operation.
He said : “the troops, in an offensive operation supported by the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji, cleared terrorists’ camps in the Fakai axis, including those belonging to notorious kingpins Bello Turji and Mallam Ila.
“Over 25 terrorists were neutralised, while more than 18 others sustained gunshot wounds during the operation.”
The statement further revealed that 7 kidnapped victims escaped from the terrorists’ camps amid the military offensive, delivering a major setback to the terrorist network.
Operation Fansan Yamma vowed to continue pursuing and neutralising all terrorist elements within its area of operation.
The statement warned terrorist kingpins and their associates to surrender and renounce violence unconditionally.
It also reassured the public of the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the affected communities.
Bello Turji, a notorious bandit leader operating in northwestern Nigeria, has been linked to numerous terrorist activities in Zamfara State, particularly in the Fakai area.
His operations have significantly impacted local communities, leading to loss of lives, displacement, and disruption of economic activities.
In recent developments, Nigerian military forces have intensified efforts to neutralize Turji’s influence.
Despite these efforts, Turji’s activities continue to pose a significant security challenge.
His group’s attacks have led to mass casualties and have instilled fear among residents.
The Nigerian government has declared Turji a wanted man, with military officials describing him as a “dead man walking,” indicating the high priority placed on apprehending him.
The situation in Fakai and surrounding areas remains tense, with ongoing military operations aimed at curbing the activities of Turji and his cohorts.
The government continues to urge citizens to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information to aid in the fight against banditry and terrorism in the region.
