Gunmen on Wednesday invaded the headquarters of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) located at Idi Ayunre, Oluyole Local Government, Oyo State and kidnapped four farmers.
The victims were said to be Cocoa farmers who were on a visit to the institute
The visitors were said to be on a guided tour of the nursery section of the institute when the bandits emerged and pounced on them and some officials from a nearby bush.
Spokesman of the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident.
Ayanlade who made the confirmation in a statement, however, said that one of the four abducted farmers has been rescued.
He said efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining three victims and arrest the culprits.
“One of the four kidnapped victims has been successfully rescued, and his vehicle recovered.
“The rescued victim is currently in safe custody and undergoing debriefing.
“Efforts are on to rescue the remaining victim and arrest the perpetrators,” Ayanlade said.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, alongside other tactical teams, to reinforce the Divisional Police Officer, Idi-Ayunre Division, and other operatives in an ongoing intensive bush combing operation,” the statement said.
