Nigeria and China have intensified efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in key sectors of the economy, including electricity, infrastructure and industrial development, following high-level talks between the Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Joseph Tegbe, and the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. Yu Dunhai.
The strategic meeting, held in Abuja, focused on expanding collaboration under the Nigeria-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework and identifying practical areas of cooperation capable of accelerating Nigeria’s economic transformation and modernization agenda.
During the discussions, Ambassador Yu congratulated Tegbe on his appointment and commended his contributions to advancing relations between both countries.
He reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development aspirations and pledged continued cooperation in implementing agreements reached during the recent Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing.
According to the ambassador, enhanced collaboration in power generation, electricity infrastructure and broader development projects remains critical to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and delivering tangible benefits to their citizens.
He emphasized that China remains committed to working closely with Nigeria in advancing strategic projects that promote economic growth, industrialization and sustainable development.
Responding, Tegbe described China as one of Nigeria’s most important development partners and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening relations with Beijing across critical sectors.
He expressed appreciation for China’s longstanding support for Nigeria’s socio-economic development and pledged closer engagement with the Chinese Embassy and relevant Chinese institutions to drive practical investments and partnerships.
Tegbe identified power infrastructure, manufacturing and modern agriculture as priority areas where expanded cooperation could help unlock economic opportunities, create jobs and improve living standards.
He noted that stronger Nigeria-China ties would not only support the country’s development objectives but also contribute to broader efforts aimed at advancing modernization and sustainable development across the African continent.
The meeting comes amid renewed efforts by the Nigerian government to attract strategic investments and partnerships to address infrastructure deficits, boost electricity supply and accelerate industrial growth as part of its wider economic reform programme.
