The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) said that six of the Nigerian pilgrims participating in the 2023 Hajj in Saudi Arabia have lost their lives.
The Head of the NAHCON 2023 Hajj medical team, Usman Galadima disclosed this on Saturday during a meeting of the commission in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Galadima said among the casualty figures, the delegations from Osun and Kaduna states for the pilgrimage recorded two deaths each, while Plateau State recorded one.
He called for the strengthening of the pre-hajj medical screening of intending pilgrims to curb mortality.
He said it is a pre-requisite for the hajj that pilgrims should be “healthy and have the means”.
Also according to Galadima, 30 persons were diagnosed with mental health challenges and are noe undergoing treatment and expected to perform hajj.
“We have been managing them in our facilities. We have about four psychiatrists in the team.
“We have been managing them and all of them would likely perform hajj because they are a bit stable now,” he said.
He also said the 2023 Hajj clinic recorded two miscarriages and the delivery of one baby.(vitalnewsngr.com)
