The 42nd Miss Nigeria, Chidinma Aaron, has urged young girls to desist from drug abuse because it is a major cause of depression which leads to untimely death.

The beauty queen said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.

Aaron spoke against the backdrop of recurring deaths of celebrities, especially that of the late Cheslie Kryst, Miss USA 2019.

NAN reports that Kyrst, a lawyer, allegedly died of depression after jumping from a multistorey building on Jan. 30.

The 30-year-old beauty queen, who lived on the ninth floor of the building, jumped after sharing a photo on her instagram page with the caption, “may this day bring you rest and peace.”

Aaron urged young girls to desist from drug abuse in order not to fall into depression.

“I don’t think anything whatsoever should lead to depression of young ladies, and why successful celebrities could take their lives.

“Drug abuse has been identified as the major cause of depression and a way out of it is to stop and meditate on a positive image of future.

“If you have been down for too long and there’s no way out; if you grew up in a family that saw the worst and somehow everything always went bad.

“If your health is down, do not take wrong medication to avoid increasing the depression, reach out to someone, speak out and do not take eratic steps,” she advised.

Aaron said that wisdom should make one understand that if the purpose of a thing was not known, abuse was inevitable.

“This is true about how one lives her life, operates an equipment or treats a person who comes into their life and so on.

“It is important to know the purpose of life. Not knowing this could lead to confusion, erratic behaviours, depression or a wasted life.

“As one navigates through life, it is important to see farther into the future in hope. This is commonly called having a vision.

“Without vision, the people perish. Many are living a fast-paced life and have no time to reflect, meditate and consider a-10-year or 20-year plan for their future,” she said.

According to the 28-year-old model and chef, those who allow themselves to go into depression have no sense of purpose or time to self development.

She noted that such ladies were blinded by problems which seem insurmountable but really were not.

“Depression is real in the society. In fact, it is defined as a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act.

“Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest and can interfere with your daily functioning.

“Some schools of thought said it is a medical condition that affects your mood and ability to function making one sad, anxious or hopeless.

“The condition can also cause difficulty with thinking, memory, eating and sleeping and within a short while, it can lead to self-harm or death,” she said.

NAN reports that Aaron, from Enugu State, was crowned Miss Nigeria 2018 and is currently serving as a business development manager with MOMAfrica, which she is the founder.

According to her, MOMAfrica is a growing e-commerce platform where women access high end products and services to support their beauty needs. (NAN/vitalnews)
