Rigging Osun Governorship Election Can Lead To A Repeat Of 1983 Political Crisis – Adeleke Warns
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has warned President Bola Tinubu against any attempt to manipulate the August 15 governorship election in the state.

Adeleke said rigging the electiin could lead to a repeat of 1983 political crisis in which so many lives were lost and properties worth billions of Naira were either destroyed on set ablaze

Adeleke, who described himself as the Chief Security Officer of the state urged the President to ensure that the electoral process was not compromised.

“President Tinubu, I’m the Chief Security Officer of Osun State, and I’m passing this message to you. Osun will not accept any rigging,” the governor said.

He warned that any attempt to subvert the outcome of the election could lead to a repeat of the political crisis that followed the controversial 1983 election in the old Ondo State.

“If anybody tries to do otherwise, the political crisis of 1983, when some people tried to rig Michael Ajasin out of power in Ondo State, may repeat itself again,” Adeleke said.

The governor also questioned what he described as renewed political pressure on his administration, noting that the Accord Party had endorsed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

“President Tinubu, the Accord Party has endorsed you as its presidential candidate. Why are we suffering again?” he asked.

The August 15 election is expected to be a major political contest in Osun, with the incumbent administration and opposition parties stepping up mobilisation and campaign activities ahead of the poll.

Adeleke’s warning comes amid heightened political activities in the state and growing concerns among stakeholders over the conduct and credibility of the forthcoming election.
