The police in Oyo State have expressed grave concern over the increasing surge in cases of land grabbing, in Ibadan and other major towns and villages across the state.
Spokesman of the state police command, CSP Adewale Osifeso, raised the alarm in a statement issued on Monday on behal of the state Commissioner of police.
Osifeso, in expressed worry that the development poses a significant threat to community stability and individual rights across the state.
He said that land grabbing undermines the trust and safety of communities, as it often leads to conflicts, displacements, and violations of fundamental rights.
According to him, land grabbing is often accompanied by violence and intimidation.
In light of escalating complaints and reports of unlawful land acquisition, across the state, the statement said the police “wish to assure the public of our commitment to addressing this issue head-on.
“Land grabbing undermines the trust and safety of our communities, as it often leads to conflicts, displacements, and violations of fundamental rights.
“The Oyo State Police Command, in collaboration with the Oyo State Government, is fully equipped to take decisive action against individuals or groups that perpetrate such unlawful acts.
“To combat land grabbing effectively, the Oyo State Police Command is prepared to utilize the existing laws of the land and the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.
“Anyone found culpable of land grabbing activities will face appropriate legal consequences.
“The Oyo State Police Command stands firm in its dedication to maintaining law and order while protecting the rights and properties of all residents.
“We encourage community members to seek resolution through legal means rather than resorting to self-help or violence.
“We appreciate the continuous support and cooperation of the public in our endeavor to eliminate land grabbing and uphold the rule of law in Oyo State.
