It listed several top names whose escorts must be withdrawn to include former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo; FCT Minister Nyesom Wike; former First Lady Aisha Buhari; Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun; and the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III.

Others are the Minister of State for Labour, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, APC Women Leader, Alhaji Kamba, Hon. Ngozi Iweala
and Senator Ahmed Lawal.

Also affected are Hon. Khalifa Abdul, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani
Hon. Vetra, Hon. Moses Ternege, Managing Director, Barelco, Engineer Okeke and Hon. Ibrahim Massari.

The squadron directed all withdrawn personnel to resume immediately for redeployment and further briefing.

This move marks the second wave of internal enforcement since the presidency ordered the dissolution of VIP police protection.

Under the new security arrangement, individuals seeking close protection will have to request assistance from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), which has now been assigned the responsibility of VIP protection.

The Nigeria Police Force has redeployed the 11,566 officers recalled from Very Important Persons (VIPs) to underserved communities.

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, disclosed this to the press on Thursday after a meeting of senior police officers.

He said the recall was in compliance with the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

He added that those recalled had been reassigned in line with ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening internal security and enhancing community policing.

Egbetokun said the recall would ensure strategic realignment in the force to strengthen frontline policing and protecting vulnerable communities across the country.

He said the redeployment of the recalled officers would significantly boost security presence in rural and high-risk areas that have long experienced inadequate policing.

The IGP said the Nigerian police was achieving more operational outcomes in spite of its current challenges.

He listed some of its recent achievements to include arrest of 451 armed robbery suspects, 356 kidnapping suspects, 534 murder suspects, 129 culpable homicide suspects, 173 persons for unlawful possession of firearms, 312 suspected rapists and 282 suspected cultists as well as 6,094 other suspects for various serious offences.

Police boss also listed the recovery of 249 firearms, nearly 21,000 rounds of ammunition, and 238 vehicles.

Egbetokun said he had directed all state commands to activate enhanced patrols, highway visibility operations, and community-focused policing strategies as well as the deployment of drones and AI-driven surveillance tools on the approach of the December festivities.
