Police, Local Hunters Rescue 13 Persons From Bandits In Kwara

Police in Ilorin, Kwara State have successfully rescued 13 person recently abducted by kidnappers on December 21.

The victims were on their way to a wedding ceremony in Kogi State when they were abducted by gunmen.

Police said they were rescued through a joint effort, involving the police and the Oke-Ero Local Government Security Initiative.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Ilorin, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that the operation was initiated following a distress call.

“Acting on credible intelligence and with support from local informants, security operatives stormed the kidnappers’ hideout in the Idofin-Igbana area.

“Upon encountering the rescue team, the armed kidnappers, six in number, disguised in military uniforms, engaged in a gunfight but were overpowered.

“They fled the scene with injuries, leaving behind their captives.

“The 13 rescued victims included three females and ten males from various locations, including Odo-Owa in Oke-Ero LGA, Ilorin, Ogbomoso, and a group of trailer drivers headed to Kogi State.

“Two of the victims sustained minor injuries and were immediately provided with medical care before being reunited with their families.

“All 13 victims were rescued in a swift operation and have been reunited with their families,” police said in the statement.

In his reaction, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, praised the operatives’ resilience and the community’s support in providing timely information.

He assured the public of the Command’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime.

Olaiya urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines at 07032069501 or 08125275046.
