Operatives of Police Mobile Force, 70 Squadron in Kabba, Kogi State on Friday foiled attempt by a gang of kidnappers to abduct passengers of a commercial bus along Ayere road in the state.
The kidnappers had blocked the road and were in the process of abducting the passengers suspected to be 18 in number when operatives arrived the scene.
The timely arrival of the armed policemen jolted the kidnappers who immediately engaged the police operatives in a gun duel.
The kidnappers, however, abandoned their victims and escaped through the nearby bush due to the superior fire power of the policemen.
Spokesman of the state police command, SP William Aya confirmed the development.
He said the action of the mobile policemen stationed at Kabba, was in response to a distress call that armed hoodlums had blocked Ayere road and were in the process of abducting passengers in commercial bus driving through Ayere community.
“On receipt of the distress call, reinforcement teams from Sharper Corner Pindown were promptly mobilized and sent to the scene which equally engaged the hoodlums, and owing to the superior fire power of the Police, the hoodlums fled into the bush and abandoned their victims who were rescued by the Police.
“The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has ordered the deployment of additional operational and tactical assets of the Command to embark on thorough combing of the surrounding bushes with a view to apprehending the hoodlums and bringing them to deserved justice.
The CP while commending the unwavering dedication by the men of 70 PMF, Kabba, assured the public that the Police will not rest on its oars in the fight against criminality in the State,” Aya said. (vitalnewsngr.com)
