Police in Minna, Niger State, have detained a 14-year-old girl, Joy Afekafe for her alleged involvement in the murder of Dr Fumilola Adefolalu, a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State.
During her arrest and parade at the Bosso Police Station in Minna, Niger State on Tuesday, Joy acknowledged the crime.
Joy said she went to the lecturer’s house to confront and humiliate her for terminating her employment.
She explained that she had lived with the deceased for three weeks and the victim was supposed to sponsor her education but asked her to leave because she could no longer tolerate her misconduct.
Joy, an SS 2 student at Day Secondary School in Gidan Kuka, claimed that she and two of her classmates, Walex and Smart, visited the victim’s home where they attacked her.
She went on to say that during the attack, they realized the lecturer would report them if they left her alone, so they made the decision to kill her.
“It was Walex who said that she would recognize us if we left her alive, so they started stabbing her with the knife we brought, I then struggled with the knife with them which made Smart enter her kitchen and take a knife there and they continued stabbing her.
” They stabbed her in her stomach, her hands, her legs and she was just shouting Jesus, Jesus.
“After all that, they took her phone and laptop and her car battery before we left the house in the motorcycle we came in,” she narrated.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Niger State Police, DSP Abiodun Wasiu, said the search for the fleeing suspects was ongoing and that the case has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for additional investigation and prosecution.
