The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of the Chief Imam of Sokunkpan Village in Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Ademiy, said in a statement that the incident occurred on November 4, 2025, around 9:30 p.m., when a 25-year-old resident, Ibrahim Gana, who had been ill and receiving treatment at a hospital, passed away.
According to police investigations, the deceased’s brothers, identified as Mohammed Shaba and Mahmud Gana, accused the village Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, of being responsible for Ibrahim’s death.
The suspects allegedly mobilised a group of people who attacked the cleric with dangerous weapons, leading to his death.
SP Ejire-Ademiy noted that police operatives quickly moved into action and arrested four suspects, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend others involved in the mob attack.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, condemned the incident, describing it as a barbaric act of jungle justice that has no place in a civilized society.
“No one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
“Such actions are criminal and will be met with the full force of the law,” he warned.
Ojo urged residents to always report grievances or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s designated communication channels rather than resorting to violence.
He assured members of the public of the command’s commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across the state, adding that further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
