In a rare show of patriotism and spirit of sportsmanship, former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Phillips Omeiza Salawu has congratulated Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Anaje on his selection as the new Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.
Salawu was a front runner candidate to the hitherto vacant stool of Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.
He was rated as the number one on the list of the seven shortlisted candidates for the Ohinoyi stool by the Ebira kingmakers.
However, in a rare act of magnanimity, Salawu on Wednesday in his congratulatory message to Anaje, the Ohinoyi designate, said : ” I congratulate you on your appointment by the Kogi State Government as our new Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.
“I wish you a peaceful and prosperous reign.”
Recalled that a couple of days ago, when asked by a member of an Ebira Peace Group if he would support any other person other than himself as the eventual winner of the race for the coveted Ohinoyi of Ebiraland stool, Salawu answered in the affirmative : ” Yes. It is my wish to be the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland but if I don’t eventually emerge, I will support him because power belongs to God.
“Any one who knows me will tell you that I am never desperate for any position.”
Observers said coming out to pray for the new Ohinoyi, wishing him a prosperous and success shortly after his appointment as the new king of the land is an eloquent testimony to the famed integrity of Salawu as a man whose words are his bond.
