Oyo State Government has declared Monday, July 8, 2024, a public holiday to commemorate the beginning of the new Islamic calendar year, Hijrah 1446AH.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike K. Adeyemo, disclosed this in a statement in Ibadan on Thursday.
Adeyemo said Governor Seyi Makinde enjoined all residents to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the state and the country at large.
The declaration is aimed at allowing Muslim faithful in the state to celebrate the significant occasion, which marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year.
The government urges all citizens to observe the work-free day and join in the celebrations, seeking divine blessings for the state and nation.
