Osun Government Okays Selection Of Prince Adesuyi Haastrup As New Owa Obokun Of Ijeshaland

Osun State government has approved the appointment of Prince Adesuyi Haastrup as the new Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesha land.

The state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr Kola Alimi announced the appointment of Prince Haastrup as the Owa Obokun Of Ijeshaland in a statement in Osogbo on Friday.

“Governor Adeleke congratulated Prince Haastrup on his appointment and urged all sons and daughters of Ijesha land to cooperate with their new traditional ruler,” Alimi said in the statement.

Adesuyi’s appointment was ratified during the Osun State Executive Council Meeting, which was presided over by Governor Adeleke.

Prince Haastrup, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State will be succeeding the late Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesha land, Oba (Dr) Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran II, who joined his ancestors on September 11, 2024.

The selection process for the new monarch was carried out in accordance with the Chiefs’ Law of Osun State 2002 (Cap 25).

Kingmakers had earlier in the day announced the selection of Looja Clement Adesuyi Haastrup of Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House as the new Owa Obokun Ajimoko III and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland.

He defeated nine other candidates in a free and fair selection process held at the Ilesa West Local Government Secretariat along the Ilesa-Oshogbo road.

The kingmakers included six Iwora mefa mamely Obaala, High chief Ibitoye, Ogboni Ipole, Oba Omokehinde Oyeleye, Ogboni Ijebu-jesa, Oba Olufemi Agunsoye ( Elegboro), Ogboni Ibokun, Oba Festus Awogboro, Ogboni Ilesa High Chief Saka Fapohunda, Oba Odo of Ilesa, and seven agba Ijesa , Risawe of Ilesa. High Chief Adefioye Adedeji, Lejoka of Ilesa, High Chief Omoniyi Ojo, Lejofi, High Chief Adebusoye Onigbogi, Arapate of Ilesa, High Chief Oluwagbemiga Fadunsin Igbarool , Loro of Ilesa, High Chief Lekan Folorunso , Odole of Ulesa ,High Chief Bola Orolugbagbe and Mr Abimbola Aluko ( warrant officer representing the Saloro of ilesa whose stool is vacant)

Announcing the result, the Head of Local Government Administration in Ilesa West Local Government, Mrs Felicia Olabimtan said Looja Clement Adesuyi secured highest votes and emerged as the owa Obokun elect.

She said six of the kingmakers voted, while High Chief Adefioye Adedeji was absent and 7 others were not eligible.

Speaking with newsmen after the exercise , the Ogboni of Ibokun, oba Festus Awogboro and the Elegboro of Ijesaland, oba Olufemi Agunsoye described the exercise as peaceful , congratulating the Owa elect and the ijesas smooth beginning of the new era in Ijesaland.

Aside the Prince Haastrup’s appointment, Governor Adeleke also approved the appointment of Prince Johnson Adekanmi Abikoye as the new Asaoni of Ora Igbomina.

This appointment follows the demise of Oba Tinuoye Atolagbe, who passed away on November 19, 2023.

During the Executive Council Meeting, Governor Adeleke also took the opportunity to pass a vote of confidence on all members of his Executive Council for their performance in the outgoing year.

He challenged them to surpass their achievements in the coming year by being alive to their statutory duties and responsibilities.
