A cultural icon and Head (Olori) of all Eyo Masqueraders in Lagos Island, Chief Kabiru Adeshina Oshodi is dead.
Aged 72 , Chief Oshodi died on Monday, July 20, 2026, after a brief illness.
A well known socialite and close confidant of the late Fuji Music Creator, Dr Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, Oshodi served at the helm of the Eyo Labaekun territory for over three decades.
Chief Oshodi who hailed from Epetedo, was also a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State.
Abdullateef Olatoye Rabiu, President, Omo Epetedo Forum, confirmed the death in a statement E-signed by him and obtained by Vital News Monday evening.
The starement reads in part : “It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that the Omo Epetedo Forum mourns the passing of Olori Eyo, High Chief Kabiru Adeshina Oshodi, an illustrious elder statesman, respected community leader, and an unwavering custodian of the rich cultural heritage of Lagos Island.
“High Chief Kabiru Adeshina Oshodi devoted his life to the service of humanity and the advancement of the Epetedo Community.
“He spent his years addressing community concerns, fostering unity among residents, and galvanising the grassroots towards peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding, and sustainable development.
“His wise counsel, humility, and commitment to communal progress earned him the admiration and respect of people across Lagos Island.
“As Olori Eyo Laba, he played a pivotal role in preserving and promoting the revered Adamu Orisa Play, one of the most cherished cultural traditions of Lagos.
“He stood as a worthy custodian of our heritage, ensuring that the values, customs, and traditions handed down by our forebears remained alive for future generations.
“High Chief Oshodi will also be remembered for strengthening cordial relationships among families, traditional institutions, and community organisations across Lagos Island.
“His leadership was defined by wisdom, inclusiveness, and an unrelenting desire to see peace and harmony prevail.
“The Omo Epetedo Forum extends its heartfelt condolences to the Oshodi Royal Family, the Eyo Laba family, the traditional institution, and the entire people of Epetedo and Lagos Island.
“We pray that Almighty God grants his gentle soul eternal rest and gives his family, friends, and the entire community the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
