The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has attributed the system disturbance which resulted in loss of power from the National grid to tripping of a Generation company.

The incident which occurred on Wednesday, NISO said resulted in significant load drop that cascaded to other Generation companies leading to system disturbance

NISO says restoration of the grid has commenced immediately with supply to Abuja from Shiroro power plant and substantial restoration has been achieved across the country

“Investigation has commenced with outcome to determine proactive action to forestall future occurrence,” NISO said.

The AEDC had earlier in the day announced that the national electricity grid suffered a collapse on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, leading to widespread power outages across the country.

The distribution company confirmed this in a public notice issued via its official X handle.

According to the company, the collapse occurred at about 11:23 a.m., resulting in the loss of power supply to customers across its franchise areas.

The statement reads :
“Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 a.m. today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas.”

AEDC assured customers that efforts are ongoing to restore supply as engineers and relevant stakeholders work to stabilize the grid.

The company further appealed for patience and understanding from the public while restoration efforts continue, and urged customers to contact its support lines for inquiries.
