Ibadan – Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state said on Saturday that he has approved the nomination of Chief Lekan Balogun as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Makinde who stated this while speaking at a farewell service organised in honour of the late Olubadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji said government will make an official announcement to that effect on Monday, February 14.
He said the approval followed a correspondence he received from the Olubadan -In-Council, informing him of the nomination of Balogun as the next Olubadan.
At the well attended event which was held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Makinde paid glowing tributes to the departed traditional ruler, describing him as peace loving, a bridge builder , good listener and cool headed.
He also added that Oba Adetunji was well endowed with good sense of judgment and native intelligence.
The governor commended the late Olubadan for standing by his subjects by protecting and defending the age long Ibadan Chieftaincy system, saying that his government would sustain the trend as laid down by the late manarch.
“This is another victory for the Ibadan Traditional institution. We didn’t have to wait for months before appointing a new monarch, like some other towns, ” he said.
The event was witnessed by top government functionaries, prominent Ibadan indigenes, traditional rulers from neighbouring towns and clerics. (vitalnews)
