Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State on Monday led a delegation to Niger State to commiserate with Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago over the recent terrorist attacks that rocked communities in the Borgu Emirate area, pledging closer inter-state collaboration to confront rising insecurity along their shared borders.
Abdulrazaq, who is also the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, described the attacks as tragic and devastating.
He noted that several lives were lost while many residents were displaced and stripped of their means of livelihood.
“The attacks are unfortunate and heartbreaking.
“Many innocent lives have been lost, livelihoods destroyed, and families rendered homeless.
“On behalf of the government and people of Kwara State, as well as the Nigeria Governors Forum, we extend our deepest sympathy to the government and people of Niger State,” he said.
The Kwara governor stressed the need for sustained cooperation among subnational governments and security agencies to tackle the growing threats confronting communities, especially those located around forested and border areas.
He assured that governors across the country would continue to work with relevant authorities to strengthen security architecture and restore peace to affected communities.
Responding, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as a strong show of solidarity at a critical time.
“It is heartwarming and a clear demonstration of togetherness.
“Kwara and Niger share borders around the Borgu Emirate, and both states are facing similar security challenges.
“This visit underscores the importance of unity in addressing them,” Bago stated.
The meeting between the two governors is expected to open discussions on joint security strategies, intelligence sharing and coordinated actions aimed at curbing cross-border criminal activities and restoring confidence among residents in the affected areas. (vitalnewsngr.com)
