Ilorin – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kwara Area Command says it generated N3,566,997,587.12
as revenue between January and March this year.
The Area Customs Comptroller, Kehinde Ilesanmi disclosed this in Ilorin on Wednesday during a press conference on the activities of the command.
He said the command also recorded 23 seizures of different items with a duty paid value of N34,797,020 million naira within the same period
Ilesanmi said the successes were recorded through the use of concept of policing the land borders and area of responsibilities in line with international best practices.
According to him, some of the prohibited items seized include ,451 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 23 bales of second hand clothes and 873 kegs of petroleum of 25 liters amounting to 21, 825 litres of PMS.
Other items seized are six units of used vehicles, and one motorcycle used in smuggling petroleum products.
Ilesanmi said in line with extant laws and Standard Operational Procedure (SOP), most of the seized flammable products have been auctioned to members of the public, adding that the amount generated as fees has been remitted into the government coffers.
The Area Controller warned smugglers to keep away from the state .
He expressed the determination of the command to remain unrelenting in it efforts to continue to foil, frustrate and deplete the activities of economy saboteurs.
