The Chief Judge of Kwara State, Hon. Justice Abiodun Ayodele Adebara, has freed three inmates of the Old Ilorin Custodial Centre in Okekura and the New Custodial Centre in Mandala.

Adebara freed the inmates during his recent visit to the two custodial centers.

The Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Correctional Service, Kwara State Command, SC Adegbulugbe Philip Olumide confirmed the release of three inmates in a statement made available to newsmen in Ilorin Kwara State.

Justice Adebara was accompanied on the visit by Hon. Justice Ibijoke Olawoyin, the State High Court Registrar, Mrs. Kudirat Yahaya, and other key stakeholders in the criminal justice system.

During the visit, the Chief Judge expressed concern over the overcrowded conditions in the state’s correctional facilities.

He noted that it is within his constitutional mandate to carry out jail deliveries, which involve reviewing cases that have remained unresolved for a long time, inmates suffering from terminal illnesses, and those convicted of minor offences that could be addressed through community service.

After reviewing a number of cases, Justice Adebara released three inmates.

He urged the freed individuals to refrain from returning to a life of crime and expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian Correctional Service for providing a conducive environment for the exercise.

He also pledged to make his visits to the custodial centres a continuous effort.

The Controller of Corrections in Kwara State, Danmairomu Shuaib Ayodeji, speaking on behalf of the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, commended the Chief Judge and his team for their efforts.

He also advised the released inmates to uphold good behaviour and contribute positively to society.  (vitalnewsngr.com)
