Kogi Suspends Two Secondary School Principals Over Extortion

Kogi State government has suspended two secondary school principals for allegedly engaging in illegal collection of fees from their students.

The state Commissioner for education disclosed the suspension of the principals in Lokoja on Monday while featuring on this week’s edition of ‘’State of Kogi’’, a Radio Kogi audience participatory programme.

The Commissioner did not reveal the identities of the suspended principals but  said the two of them are from Kogi Central and Kogi West areas of the state.

According to him, some school principals and head teachers are also currently being investigated for alleged extortion and misconduct.

Jones vowed to met out similar treatment to any other secondary school principals or head teachers of public primary schools caught sabotaging government’s free education policy.

He said the 30 per cent yearly budgetary allocation to the education sector is still in place, saying Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is thinking of increasing it due to the importance attached to the sector.

Jones explained that while effort is being made to revamp primary school education in the state, government is also making plans to pay for NECO fees of secondary school pupils in public schools.

The Commissioner, who reiterated the commitment of the present administration in resuscitating technical education in the state, commended governor for consolidating on the achievements of the former Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

Jones added that all programmes in the State owned tertiary institutions have been duly accredited, adding that government will continue to give priority to the education sector.
