A cross- section of residents of Lokoja have have commended the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for according priority attention to a clean and healthy environment.
The residents who spoke on Wednesday said the move will also lead to general improvement in the health of Kogites.
They also commended the Commissioner for environment and Ecological Management, Engr. Joseph Oluwasegun Stephen, for the faithfull implementation ” Operation Clean City ”
“Operation Clean City” is a newly launched initiative by the Kogi State government to checkmate Indiscriminate dumping of wastes.
The residents said the initiative will help attract investors and accelerate economic and social development.
They said the idea was in line with the ododo’s led administration’s promises to improve infrastructure and drive urban renewal in the state.
While commending the Governor, a resident Mr. Oguma Haruna said :
“Before now, when rain intensifies, we experience blockage in our waterways due to improper waste disposal in the drainages but with the progress of work done from Kpata down to International market, the drainages have been distilled allowing for free flow of water , there by preventing issues relating to bad road network, pollution and flooding.”
He restated his willingness to work with the Commissioner in his quest to create an enabling environment for Kogi State
Mrs Comfort Abale, a Fish Seller along Kpata road expressed appreciation to the state government for the ongoing clearing of wastes and desilting of drainages in Lokoja, the state capital.
She said : “We thank God for the ododo’s led administration, we thank God for the Commissioner for Environment, work is going on smoothly, Lokoja is wearing a new look and we are happy.”
Another trader, Safiya Usman lauded the commitment of the Commissioner in overseeing the sanitation exercise.
In her words : “I have not seen a leader with such exemplary traits, he is here on a daily basis to ensure that the job is being done effectively.
“It is obvious from his dedication to work that he is not out to play.
“He is the best person for the job because of his commitment to maintaining a clean environment which is essential for the state cleanup.”
Speaking, the Commissioner for environment and ecological management, Engr Oluwasegun Stephen maintained that the achievements of a healthy and sustainable environment in Kogi State is a priority for the present administration.
He stressed that the vision is to create a livable environment free from air, water and land pollution in Kogi State.
