Gunmen, that killed Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole, Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti in the Ekiti local government area of Kwara State are now demanding N40 million for the release of his wife and one other person.

The Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) of the Ekiti Local Government, Chief Kehinde Bayode disclosed this to newsmen in Ilorin on Sunday.

He also said that a suspect had been arrested in connection with the incident.

However, Spokesman of the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said no arrest had been made in connection with the incident.

Bayode explained further that efforts are being made to free the abducted wife of the monarch and the other person.

He said : “The kidnappers had got in touch with the family demanding for N100 million ransom which has now been reduced to N40million.

“We are still negotiating with them and right now, I’m on my way to Koro to get the latest information on the negotiation.

“We will continue to brief you as the situation unfolds and we will keep you posted.”

The kidnappers had at about 8pm of Thursday, February 1, 2024 invaded the palace of Oba Segun Aremu at Koro Ekiti in Ekiti Local Government of Kwara State , killing him and abducting his wife and two other persons.

However, one of the two persons kidnapped , an 83 year old man was later released by the kidnapers, leaving the wife of the traditional ruler and one other person in their captivity.

The late traditional ruler was also a retired general of the Nigeria Army.

Speaking further on efforts being made by police to free the kidnap victms , Spokesman if the Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, said : “The CP has deployed tactical team to Koro Ekiti to fish out the perpetrators.

“Policemen are working with other security agencies to free those that were abducted during the kidnapping incident.

“No arrest has been made yet. We are going to keep you abreast of the development as it unfolds.”
