Kano State Hospitals Management Board has dismissed three staff of the Kabo General Hospital for alleged extortion.
The board also approved immediate suspension of the Accountant, Auditor and Head of laboratory for selling free HIV test kits at Kabo General Hospital.
The Executive Secretary, Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Mansur Nagoda took the decision after an unscheduled inspection of medical facility.
A statement by Samira Sulaiman , Spokesperson of the board, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday.
He said Dr. Nagoda who was accompanied on the visit by Director-General KNCDC, Dr. Muhammad Abbas and Director-General SAKA , Dr. Usman Bashir.
Nagoda expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the public health facility.
According to Dr Nagoda, the sacked staff of X-ray units where caught charging a sum of N12,000 for a procedure which is officially approved for N2, 000.
Aside this, unsuspecting patients were being forced to pay the illegal charges without any document to show as evidence of payment.
”This act of sabotage and extortion has sent many away, thereby leaving the facility to carry out less than 10 X-ray’s per week despite the fact that the two X-ray batteries are functional, ” the statement said.
According to Nagoda, the suspension of the accountant, auditor and head of laboratory for selling the free HIV test kits at the facility becomes necessary to serve as deterrent.
He added that the three persons are to report to the board headquarters for further disciplinary actions.
“Labour ward was not in good shape, no bed sheets on the beds, no compound officer, dumped equipments which where donated by a member in the last four years as well as COVID-19 items donated to the facility.
”No one would be spared if caught. This act need to stop. This decision we took should serve as a deterrent to others.
“We took an oath so we will stick to that oath and sanitise the health system,” Nagoda warned. (vitalnewsngr.com)
