Police in Kwara State have arrested a kidnapped while attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds linked to the abduction of three persons in Obudu Village, Ilorin East Local Governmen Council Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Muhamodu Sanni, was intercepted at a Point-of-Sale (POS) outlet on Wednesday following an intelligence-led operation launched after the July 28, 2026 invasion of Obudu Village.
According to the command, the operation went beyond the immediate crime scene as investigators traced the communication, logistics and financial channels allegedly supporting the kidnapping syndicate.
The Police said the breakthrough came after intelligence on the ransom transaction was successfully exploited, leading operatives to Sanni as he allegedly attempted to cash out proceeds connected to the abduction.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly cooperated with investigators and provided information about his alleged role in the collection of ransom.
He also gave details concerning other suspected members of the syndicate identified as Aminu and Umar.
The command said the information supplied by Sanni had strengthened its understanding of the criminal network, with further operational leads currently being discreetly pursued.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, assured residents that the command would continue to target not only kidnappers but also the support structures, financial channels and logistics networks that enable their operations.
He said the command remained committed to disrupting criminal networks and denying them the freedom to operate across the state.
The Commissioner also urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely, credible and actionable information that could assist ongoing efforts to prevent crime and apprehend suspects.
The operation, the police said, was carried out in line with the intelligence-led and proactive policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The command said efforts were ongoing to track down other members of the syndicate linked to the Obudu/Woru axis.
