Lokoja – Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has ordered immediate closure of all brothels suspected to be harbouring criminals across the state.
Bello who announced this measure on Tuesday in Lokoja in response to the worrisome security situation of the state also banned the wearing of facemask in public places.
He said the banning on use of face mask was to allow for proper identification of people in the state.
The new security measures were announced during a meeting with all first and Second-Class traditional leaders and Chairmen of the 21 Local Government Councils in the state.
The Governor’s order was in response to a recent security breach in Ajaokuta Local Government during which three policemen and five members of the state vigilante service were killed by bandits.
In addition, the governor also directed immediate removal of shanties in Lokoja, Osara, Zango, Itobe, Obajana and some other locations across the state.
The shanties were believed to be serving as hideous for criminal elements.
Bello also ordered proper documentation of all commercial motorcycle operators in all parts of the state by security agencies.
He said the documentation should be done in conjunction with the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs, council Chairmen and leaderships of relevant transport unions.
At the meeting, Bello admonished traditional rulers to protect their domains and ensure that all nooks and crannies of their areas are cleansed of all crimes and criminalities
He, however, sympathised with the families of the slain security agents in Ajaokuta Local Government Area.
The governor charged local government Chairmen, and security agencies to continue to do their job without fear or favour and warned politicians to be mindful of their conduct.
