The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed the Anambra governorship election for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu announced the date during a meeting with political party representatives at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Yakubu noted that the previous governorship election in Anambra occurred on November 6, 2021, making the upcoming election due next year.
“By the effluxion of time, the governorship election is due next year,” he stated.
Yakubu said the formal notice for the election will be published on November 13, 2024.
He stated that party primaries are scheduled from March 20 to April 10, 2025 while the candidate nomination portal will open at 9:00 AM on April 18 and close at 6:00 PM on May 12, 2025.
According to him, the final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025 while public campaigning will commence on June 11, 2025, and conclude at midnight on November 6, 2025.
Voting will occur across all 5,720 polling units in Anambra State on the election day, he said.
Yakubu assured that further details regarding voter registration, transfers, and the replacement of lost or damaged PVCs will be released in the coming weeks.
A comprehensive timetable and schedule of activities for the 2025 Anambra State governorship election will also be uploaded to INEC’s website and social media platforms before the end of the meeting. (vitalnewsngr.com)
