A shocking DNA result has exposed a 65-year-old grandfather, Musa Gado, as the biological father of his 16-year-old granddaughter’s baby in Niger State.

According to the Niger State Child Rights Agency, Musa Gado, a 65-year-old grandfather, is being held by the police on suspicion of impregnating his 16-year-old granddaughter (name withheld).

The Director -General of the Agency, Hajiya Kaltume Mohammed, confirmed the development to journalists on Wednesday in Minna.

According to her, a Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) test verified that Gado, the victim’s maternal grandfather from Mashegu LGA in the state, is the biological father of the four-month-old child born to his granddaughter.

The D-G claims that the suspect attempted to terminate the pregnancy multiple times without success.

She disclosed that in 2025, Mr. Lawal Nababa, the victim’s father, filed a complaint alleging that her maternal grandpa had repeatedly sexually assaulted his daughter.

The Director-General said at the time the matter was reported at the agency, the victim was six months pregnant and was kept in the agency’s custody until she delivered a baby boy in December 2025.

According to her, the teenager, whose parents are still living, has been adopted by her maternal grandma since she was a young child.

But according to Mohammed, the suspect denied any involvement in the crime, therefore the agency had to request the N500,000 DNA test, which was done in a lab outside of Nigeria.

“The girl was actually six months pregnant when she was brought to the agency.

“She has been in the agency’s custody ever since we had to perform some medical examinations.

“She gave birth in December, and we agreed that the only way we could get to the root of the matter and establish the fact was to go for the DNA test, which was agreed to by both parties.

“After she delivered the baby, we waited for her to be strong before we went for the paternity test, and within five weeks the result came out, and it was announced that the grandfather was the father of the baby because the result was 99.9999 per cent positive,” she said.

The Director-General revealed that the suspect, currently in police custody, would be charged to court after police had completed its investigation.

Mohammed also disclosed that the agency was currently handling six similar cases, including that of a father who had been having carnal knowledge of his biological daughter.

“Rape and child molestation are concerning throughout the state.

“I assumed office as the DG Niger State Child Rights Agency in November 2025, and honestly, we have had a lot of issues of rape where children were molested by their parents, neighbours and some people within the community.

“We are currently prosecuting six cases, the most significant of which is the 16-year-old girl who was impregnated by her grandfather.

“On October 5, 2025, the girl’s father reported this case to the agency,” She stated.
