Lokoja – The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Akeem Yusuf has presented cheques worth N39.8million to families of 25 police officers that died while in active service.
Yusuf made the presentation on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba at the state police command headquarters, Lokoja on Friday.
A statement from the state police command spokesman, SP William Ovye Aya said the monies were paid under the “Group Life Assurance Scheme” and IGP’s “Family welfare Insurance” programme.
Aya said the schemes are aimed at improving the welfare of the immediate family members of the deceased Police Officers.
The schemes are also meant to encourage other officers who are in active service to remain diligent and committed to their duty.
Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration: ACP Agwoye John who represented the Commissioner of Police at the presentation ceremony said the loss of the officers was unfortunate.
He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money for the betterment of their families.
He then wished them safe journey back to their various destinations.
The beneficiaries in separate remarks appreciated the IGP for the gesture and promised to make good use of the money.(vitalnewsngr.com)
