Benue – Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State said he is in the presidential race in order to rescue Nigeria’s sinking boat.
A statement issued at the weekend by the Emmanuel Udom Presidential Campaign Organisation said the presidential aspirant stated this in Makurdi, Benue State during a meeting with delegates and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
‘’I am running for the Presidency because things have really gone bad and l have what it takes to salvage the situation for the sake of posterity,” the statement signed by Mr Bola Bolawole, Director of media of the campaign organisation said.
Describing himself as a loyal member of PDP, the leading presidential aspirant maintained that “what is important now is to rescue the Nigeria nation from collapse.
“Things cannot just continue like this, therefore, I offer myself to serve,” he told the delegates.
Emmanuel who was received by Governor Samuel Ortom said his presidential aspiration was not a do or die affair but an offer of service to God and humanity .
“Mine is not a do or die affair. If it is the will of God, I am ready and willing and capable to take up the challenge.
“If God chooses me, I am ready to partner with him. If he says it is someone one, I am ready to accept and work with God’s choice,” Udom said.
Responding, Ortom said the fact that Senator Gabriel Suswam, a former Governor of Benue State
is the Chairman of Emmanuel Udom Campaign Council speaks volume but lamented that “Benue has been under siege for a long time and very few people have shown concern and support.”
Ortom however, told the gathering that Udom was ‘’one’’ of ‘’the few” that had expressed his concern about the plight of the Benue people.
“As Buhari and APC said that they will take Nigeria from top to bottom, we are not only at the bottom now but beneath the bottom.
“We have been down in all spheres of life. We cannot continue like this.
“I believe the least of the PDP aspirants is better than the best in APC.
“We must pray but also we must take action. Your coming forward to offer yourself is the right step in the right direction, ’’ Ortom added. (vitalnews)
