Adamawa – Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed aka Binani has defeated a former Governor Bindow Jibrilla and ex-EFCC Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, to emerge winner of the Adamawa All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket.
Aishatu polled 430 votes, defeating Bindow who polls 103 votes, Ribadu , 288 votes, Hon. Namdas, 94, Umar Otumba , 39 and Wafari, 21 votes.
She becomes the first female governorship candidate to win the governorship primaries in Nigeria’s main parties.
Aushatu is currently representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District in the Senate.
She was also a former member of the House of Representatives for Yola North/Yola South federal constituency of Adamawa State.
Observers believed that her victory may have been influenced by the First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari who also hailed from Adamawa State.
Her insistence in the last couple of years for a fair share of elective positions for women in the country is also beieved to have influence the victory of Binani.
Only few days ago few hours the conduct if APC, Aisha Buhari visited the national headquarters of the APC where she met the National Chairman and other officials to stressed the need for women to be given a fair share of elective positions. (vitalnews)
