Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has approved N75,000 as the new minimum wage for civil servants in the state, effective from November 2024.
The new wage was announced after a closed-door meeting with the joint negotiation council, which includes representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and other affiliated unions.
After the announcement, Governor Alia reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare of the state’s workers.
In addition to the new minimum wage, he also announced the approval of payment of three months of outstanding salary arrears inherited from the previous administration.
The chairman of the joint negotiation council expressed gratitude to the governor for these steps.
He emphasided that the payment of the arrears and the wage increase will help boost the morale and productivity of civil servants in Benue State.
The closed-door meeting, attended by members of the state cabinet alongside the unions, lasted for about an hour.
