Ado – Ekiti – A Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has remanded a former Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dele Olugbemi in prison over attempted murder.
Olugbemi was arrested and arraigned on Monday before the court by the Rapid Response Squad of the Ekiti State Police Command over the attempted murder of one Chief Ogunyemi Aluko.
Ogunyemi Aluko, a leader of Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) in Ekiti had petitioned the police alleging that the ex-speaker had refused to pay a loan of N400,000 he gave him.
Aluko alleged that instead of paying back the loan, Aluko has been sending some persons to kill him.
The last straw that broke the camel’s back was when some boys allegedly hired by Olugbemi attacked the OPC leader with broken bottles.
Aluko, then ran into a police station for the safety of his life.
The former Speaker, Dele Olugbemi was elected lawmaker between 2011 – 2015 when he represent Ikole state constituency 1 and was later a member, of the House of Assembly Service Commission.
