Abuja – TARCO AIRLINE and Air Peace have agreed to fly home 700 Nigerians still remaining in Sudan within the next 48hours.
Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Head of media and protocol, disclosed this in Abuja on Sunday while given update on the ongoing rescue operation of Nigerians trapped in Sudan.
Balogun said both TARCO AIRLINE and Air Peace have agreed to bring bigger aircraft to complete the rescue exercise.
He said TARCO Airline has agreed to bring a 500-seater capacity plane while Air Peace will back up with a 250-capacity plane to clear the backlog of Nigerians in Sudan.
He confirmed that another batch of evacuees of 410 Nigerians and some officials came into the country on Sunday.
He said they flew in aboard a TARCO Airline B737-MAB plane which touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport , Abuja, at about 12:40 pm.
On ground to receive them at the airport, according to him are officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) as well as security agents.
He said the batch , which is the seventh to arrive the country since the rescue operation started came in from Port Sudan International Airport.
He said the flight was among the three full flights being expected in the country today, Sunday with about 900 Nigerians.
